How free will you be when you untie the lies and un-tree your greed? How are your decisions tied to money or a payment of some sort? It is a fact in the universe that when you speak about bills you get more bills. When you write about what is wrong in the world and how you can help the world, how do you get exactly what you’re writing about to come true, because the words you write or speak came for your inner landscape?

How is today’s world scenery exactly what you speak about to other people as being your very own daily life? Until people realize the ‘spoken word’ vibrates through the universe, and inner dialog magnetizes the universal vista, then the people of the world will swirl in the ills of the mindset tied to the lies and all will put up the ‘tree’ with the need for greed. The world is literally treed in greed – they are experiencing the ‘creep of cheap’ and they are ‘tied in the lies’ we tell ourselves to maintain the mundane. How do you live in the mundane but talk about wealth and success?

Letting go of the cloak and dagger of the lame of the mundane calls for two simple feats: freeing energizing astuteness by tantalizing the sapient ‘get grit;’ and let go and expand the heart within the innermost landscape by unbinding the mind to understand that YOU are the one ingraining the pandering in the meandering of your life. You let go of your dreams when a challenge comes along because you focus on the materialistic outcome of the situation, negating the wisdom that is being introduced into your own life. Wisdom is the confusion in the unknown of life’s adventures. Why are you afraid of gaining new wisdom?

Unknown wisdom is also known as terra incognita when you let out your courageous conquistador to be the matador saying touché to your challenges; looking directly into the challenge unlocking your valiant visionary. To look into the center of the challenge, where the light of wisdom beams, opening out your bold enterprising acumen and magnifying-my stainless significance to expand out through – and into – parvenu paradigms to relish the panoramic view of life from the K2. How do you fear seeing life from the mountain tops?

The mindset of the world is tied in the lie of business first treeing the greed of the corporate fascists in the financial landscape and in the minds of people. The treed greed in people opens out the need; taunting the wanting victim-eyes-zing drama of everything is a challenge. Instead of understanding, you never encounter a negative ordeal in your life. Everything in life is genuine gusts of genius for us to experience a life that expands enterprising energies and births your sired desires in the unlimited winning wealth in the universal vista that has your name branded on it. How do you encompass genuine gusts of genius?

Life is about being engaged in your dreams, desires, and intrepid intentions, but life gets in the way of life. We allow the challenges to be a bear trap instead of allowing ourselves to be the bear on the tear ripping through the terra incognita – cognizing the wisdom within to light our heart’s delight in the cosmopolitan cosmos. Because when I choose to engage in my idealistic, I am wise enough to open out my acumen-eyes-zing avatar to soar like Superman in a lively lithe way.

There is a world out there of nonfiction books that are overlooked a great deal of the time. In fact, if one were to read the New York Times Bestseller lists for fiction and nonfiction, you would see a stunning difference. The number of weeks that a book seems to sit on the fiction list can run anywhere from two to eighty. Usually the books with the most ‘hang-time’ are the ones where a movie has just come out, leading everyone to the book (i.e., The Help). But before the movie, the book was something that millions had never even heard of.

However, if you search the nonfiction lists, you are talking about some titles – a majority, in fact – that remain on the nonfiction list for over one-hundred-plus weeks. Why? Because nonfiction is still the precious category that many writers choose not to write.

Every once in a while a memoir comes up, or a ‘foray’ into the religious or political worlds that seem to draw attention, but a high percentage of readers are still very much attached to the paranormal, romance, action, adventure, drama and other worlds that fiction provides in full-force (which is also a downside for authors, because there are billions of fiction titles out there that each author must compete with.)

Nonfiction – for all those authors and ‘wanna-be’ debut authors – who have their idea, plot, summary, or the whole book already completed – nonfiction is still very much needed in the literary world in this day and age. Some of the most beautiful books, as well as the most-respected writers, produce nonfiction titles that, at times, have changed the world, or made the world bond together to finally believe in something (Remember The Secret?)

There are also, however, a great deal of publishers who will not ‘look’ for nonfiction, overlooking some extremely spectacular titles that readers across the globe would love to become a part of – real learning experiences, or research, or history that hundreds of thousands would be interested in.

Now add this to the ‘talk’ about the eBook versus the print book. Are print books dead? Absolutely not. Readers will ALWAYS want the book – in hand. BUT life has gotten to the point of being constantly busy and on-the-go, as well as dealing with a financial outlook that does not exactly bode well for the people of this nation, so spending money at bookstores or Amazon is sometimes very close to the bottom of the list of what you can do with what’s left over after paying the bills.

The solution seems to be the eBook. The sales for digital publishing have been building over the last decade, In fact, sales increased 164% to $441.3 million over just the last few years. That’s a lot of money, and it shows that there’s potential for authors to make serious cash from eBook sales. WITH the addition of eBooks, virtually every book publishing category showed growth. As more formats have evolved in the publishing community, consumers have more choices, and these strong sales numbers reflect those efforts. Book lovers are speaking up and sharing their VOICE with the publishing community – the eBook IS in! Do you wish to hear another amazing statistic? 78% of the titles published came from the small/self-publishers. (http://www.pma-online.org/benefits/industry_reports.cfm). In 1999, the top twenty publishers accounted for 93% of sales (Washington Post, 10/18/2000), but in 2002, the six large New York publishers accounted for 45% of the market. (Publishers Weekly, 6/16/2003). Yet another clue that authors are taking it upon themselves to bring the great books into the marketplace.

As all authors can see, the eBook is here and it’s here to stay – and digital publishing is most definitely the way to begin a journey. Google+ and Facebook seem to be caught in a world where each one wants to shine and come out as the best, actually disregarding Twitter which is odd, seeing as that at least Twitter offers the ‘gift’ of being ‘real-time’ where people do not have to wait for their messages to go out into the world and begin the branding. Of course, for consumers and customers no one really cares how much Google and Facebook fight. In fact, it very much reminds everyone of Apple versus Microsoft. In the end, all the people and businesses cared about was what the two companies were going to do for them. God bless America, right? In the end, when two monumental forces collide the consumer is the one that gets to reap the rewards. And that, my friends, is the way democracy should be. After all, we’re the ones working our behinds off for success, the least these megaliths could do is offer stellar services and a way for us to market and bring in the money.

Google+ is what the program is called. Not exactly the most creative of phrases, but Google has already proven to run the internet. More people get on their machines and go for Google research than anything else in the world – even grabbing a book from the library is out now.

When Google+ AP opened, millions received that colorful “platform” on their screens introducing the new-found program. Of course, I, as many others, didn’t even know what this was all about. The end-user simply saw this as yet another advertising option with no actual reasoning behind it. It took only about a week for the world to find out they were wrong. Google+ API has suddenly drawn-in consumers, editors, developers, and artists from all over the world trying to set up their “Buzz” and links in order to get their customers to know who they are and brand more and more every day. This, of course, IS close to the Facebook “Lists,” where the consumer or business gets their lists created for them. Seeing as that Facebook has been around a long time already, it will be interesting to see if many people use this specific marketing platform – or just continue with Facebook as they have been.

Google+ Search is something else that’s new – although, to this writer, let’s face it – if I want to search for something, I already head straight to Google anyway – nothing new there. Of course, with this addition, now a business or consumer can search for their topic, and then filter the information received into various results – categories such as: “Google+ Posts” and “Sparks.” As everyone already knows, the Facebook search is powered by Bing…and not very good.

Facebook is adding a few applications that are completely “Twitter-based,” as if seeing the monumental overload of people switching to Twitter in order to receive ‘real-time’ updates and be able to send ‘real-time’ messages to their followers.

Google+ will also move into the mobile realm. Google is launching its own mobile version, where there will be multi-user capabilities right on personal mobile devices. They are even allowing a way that you and your company can broadcast “On the Air” and even integrate Google Docs, screen sharing, and more!

Of course, there are other things in the works; some specifically aimed at the “Teen” community which seems to have taken over the world where entertainment, art, books, communication, etc. are concerned. And they are also the main sector of many businesses to focus their products and services on – and Facebook and Google+ will definitely make sure that the “teen” voice is recognized.

In the end, yes, the Facebook network is still the largest social networking site in the world, and they, too will have their announcements to release. Readers – and writers, of course – we have been speaking about this brand new publishing company over the past few weeks and the response has been astronomical. Not a big shock, considering the way the literary community (i.e., traditional publishing houses) are working right now. The amount of authors that are being overlooked, or thrown into a ‘slush’ pile (even though their manuscript was asked for by someone in the company); and the unbelievable amount of form rejection letters that are being sent back, are unbelievably horrific.

Somewhere along the way the ‘form rejection letter’ became the way to turn an author down. This is completely unacceptable in more ways than one, folks. The first, is that an author works their tail off, and puts their passion and drive into their manuscript for a reason. A writer is not created – they are born. And there are many who have put together a book that the masses very much want to read and would love. How does the author know this for a fact? The power of digital publishing and eBooks, but we will get to all that proof in just a minute. What is another reason why the ‘form rejection letter’ is unacceptable? Because it is simply a ‘way out.’ All of the websites that you research, making sure to send your query letter to the right agents and right publishers who deal with your genre – where the website states in big, bold ink that they WANT to read your query – are the ones that seem to keep the query letter for a month or more just to then send back a letter that states: “Thank you for sending us your book, (fill in title here). Although it sounds very good (etc.) it is unfortunately, not what we represent.” Even though, on their site, it is very much what they represent.

Quite frankly, if someone does not like the first three chapters then say why. Criticism IS good, because it allows the author to take a ‘fresh’ look and see if changes should be made, or if it was simply a case of an agent or publisher with no time on their hands who didn’t bother to read in the first place.

Now, perhaps agents and publishers out there are about to get mad. But they shouldn’t. No one is saying that a query letter can’t stink. There are many letters (sorry, authors) that are not good. The spelling, grammar, punctuation says it all sometimes. And there are times when the plot is just something you may NOT want to represent. Which is absolutely fine. BUT the author should be told why. There is no way for an author to get better at their chosen career without knowing, in the first place what they did wrong. And, when a form letter is sent, it very much leads the author to believe that it was not read in the first place, and that the person clicking the rejection letter is just doing it because it is their job.

Authors, agents, publishers – this is a trio that needs to work together. And even though the agent and publisher may not believe this – the author does understand the bottom-line. They do understand that certain genres are hugely popular in this day and age (i.e., YA, paranormal, gothic, etc.), and that other genres have fallen behind (i.e., Christian fiction, bodice-ripper romance, etc.) and that there are very specific publishing companies for that material. But, let’s face it, when reviewers and bookstores are getting some of the new fiction that is being published, it speaks to the masses that perhaps agents and publishers do NOT know what is selling. There has been a wealth of YA books that are turning toward child abuse, drugs, suicide, etc. that are, quite frankly, NOT selling. So it becomes a question of “Who actually knows what readers want?” And, if anyone is still ‘in the game enough’ to choose the best titles and take a chance on a new author with a new idea?

We have spoken before about how the literary world has become jaded; even articles are popping up where people who have quit and left the industry are speaking out about the fact that they saw the ‘inside world’ and didn’t like it. This writer has listened to remarks made from industry people regarding how they saw great books being overlooked because of other…situations that should not have happened. And they have also remarked that some queries (if not a great many of them) were never read. They were assigned to an intern to “get rid of.” Again, there are some truly great agents and publishers still out there who DO still believe in authors…but that number is dwindling.

It was no surprise when authors began to take it upon themselves to “see” if the people rejecting them were right. Turns out, they weren’t. E-Books and the world of digital publishing is slowly taking over, and providing a platform that allows authors to lend their VOICE to the literary community. And, in fact, some of the most brilliant voices have been found there – marketing their books on Kindle and garnering not only rave reviews, but extremely high sales.

During the past years when the recession was starting to take hold and change the American way of life and the American dream, there were those who worked harder and longer each day to help their fellow citizens, keep their heads above water.  One of these individuals was Maryland Trade Ambassador Philip Kapneck who was able to contact and reconnect with business and industry he attracted to the USA over the past 30 years, that created jobs for individuals in Maryland.

Since the recession, Ambassador Kapneck called on the same companies he helped to set up their businesses in past years, and surfing the wave of goodwill, he was able to find jobs for people who lost theirs with other companies.  While this was not one of his duties, he felt that it was essential to help those in need of work.  

Ambassador Kapneck does not want any notoriety or press coverage about his work, but it seems that the press has a yearning to cover his unselfish work in helping others.

• He has been appointed by each administration to date, since his first appointment to Belgium over 30 years ago, and is still serving as Maryland Trade Ambassador. 

Ambassador Kapneck’s ability to achieve the goals set before him, and always extending a helping hand, when it is possible to do so, has made him an icon in his own time, from his success in attracting business and industry to the creation of jobs.

The Holocaust and other tragedies in history may seem unimaginable to today’s youth. But Park Vista High School came up with an innovative and stimulating program to bring awareness of these atrocities to students that also translated into relevant issues facing teens today. For three months, they have studied the White Rose resistance movement, when a group of courageous college students almost their own age from Munich were the first to stir up the ranks of Hitler’s Nazis during l942-3. Students honored those who lived and died during that time on Holocaust Remembrance Day last month when they wore white roses, most probably a symbol of peace and purity. Donations from the effort were sent to the Save Darfur Coalition.

Mr. Moskovic from Hobe Sound was l3 years old when he was taken by the Nazis and when he was released in l945, was the only surviving member of his family. He escaped death three times from nothing short of miracles. His goal in sharing with students is “to keep the memory alive and to help our youth carry the truth in the future so people don’t forget.”  Students also shared how they have grown from the project, similar to PSAs, and posters which are part of a large quilt that covers a wall in the main cafeteria.

The White Rose program at Park Vista was made possible through a grant provided by LEAH, the League for Educational Awareness for the Holocaust based in Boca Raton, an organization that educates and advocates about the Holocaust and other genocides. It seeks to engage teachers in inspiring and motivating students to actively contribute to a kinder, more compassionate world.  To date, LEAH has funded more than 300 education grant awards which have touched the lives of 36,000 students in Palm Beach and Broward Counties. 

The White Rose group are most well-known for their leafleting and a secret organization started by Sophie and Hans Scholl of which several award-winning movies, documentaries, books and plays have been made. All seven members were convicted of treason and beheaded at a very young age. 

Media Specialist and coordinator of the school-wide program, Brigitta McTigue, spent her early years growing up in Munich, Germany where Sophie and her brother Hans Scholl and the White Rose students were considered heroes.  

“Our l6 and l7 year olds need to know this, so that they learn how to deal with prejudice, bigotry, bullying, and other human rights issues they face today. We hope this program has given them some tools to become more tolerant in their daily lives and to find healthy ways to stand up to hurtful and cruel actions done to other people merely because of differences.” 

Also collaborating and working together on the project was Sue Mehok, English teacher, as well as reading and social studies classes. Activities included reading chapters or books about the White Rose movement and watching the film “Sophie Scholl: The Final Days.” 

“As we teach students about the Holocaust, and other examples of genocide such as Darfur, Rwanda and Bosnia we are in a very real way repairing the world,” said Amanda McGee, executive director of LEAH. “They are taking the lessons that happened in the Holocaust of these very brave young people in the White Rose movement so that they can hopefully become better human beings.”  

Educational programs such as these are designed to help children learn about time periods and events that may seem incomprehensible to them. 

“They have no concept of what freedom is, because they have it,” said Ms. Mehok. 

While many schools offer only a few paragraphs in their history books about the Holocaust, Park Vista High School has a dedicated program, under the leadership of Eileen Shapiro who heads up Holocaust Studies for the school district of Palm Beach County.
