Parking meters have been installed in some of Boca Raton’s most popular areas, including around Mizner Park.
Parking meters were seen as a way to raise city revenue without increasing taxes. Many people are concerned that the use of parking meters will drive away visitors. Parking in parking garages remains free.
The parking meter issue has been talked about for several years. Back in 2009, Nancy Liu, a resident of Sun & Surf near Red Reef Park, said she was opposed to the installation of parking meters at the beach areas, citing park safety.

Boca Raton City Council had proposed 10 percent tax increase to cover expenses for the year, but after further consideration of the economic downturn, decided 10 percent was too much.
To allow paying down debt, they eventually approved an increase of just 6 cents per $1,000 of assessed value. The original plan was to increase it by 35 cents.
Adjust spending from what was proposed, the council decided not to fund financial incentives to businesses to relocate to or expand in the city, and reduce downtown event funding from $1.9 million to $227,400, and $759,400 for the Mizner Park amphitheater.
In total, spending on new programs was reduced by $5 million.

Americans are telling the federal government they’ve had enough! Now it isn’t only the Tea Parties saying this. The Tea Party movement has been telling the politicians all year and all year teh politicians have been ignoring them and making fun of them.
Even President Obama has spoken out about Tea Party members, some of whom voted for him and his party. Bill Clinton, in an interview said the Tea Party members were unwitting pawns of the GOP.
Now, many more groups are starting to speak out. Will the politicians speak ill of all Americans soon?
One such group, Spending Revolt, formed in 1984 is running a bus tour. Spending Revolt doesn’t endorse candidates or contribute to campaigns. The tour has been sponsored by Americans for Prosperity, Concerned Women for America, the 60 Plus Association and Citizens Against Government Waste. Three of these groups are conservative political advocacy groups. Citizens Against Government Waste is a nonprofit that has previously campaigned on behalf of the tobacco industry, and other large industries.
The tour stated in Miami and passed through Boca Raton in it’s way to Tallahassee.
Do you think the federal politicians are listening to the voices of the people they are meant to serve??
A 29-year-old woman may have died of carbon monoxide poisoning in her home because her keyless Lexus was running in the garage.
A keyless car may seem like a smart, modern innovation, but it seems to me more like a poorly thought-out idea, turning vehicles into death traps for people who don’t realize their car is still running.
The runaway Toyota Lexus that killed a San Diego family in 2009 was also a keyless ignition model.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website reports, in 2003-2004 data, 147 carbon monoxide poisonings, but it makes no mention of the type of ignition in the vehicle. Perhaps these fatalities will prompt police to note this in future, but it seems strange the NHTSA couldn’t deduce these numbers, given other information about the ehicles involved.
